Bayes' Theorem FTW
What is the probability that a startup positively affects healthcare for billions of people (event A) given that a world-class engineering leader joins Bayesian Health (event B)?
While there is only a marginal probability that a startup positively impacts billions of people, we (those of us reading and sharing this post) have the opportunity to affect that condition :-)
Let's talk about A. There are few people in this world (if any) that are positioned to make the impact that Suchi Saria can on healthcare. Midway through her PhD at Stanford where she was working with Daphne Koller, Suchi shifted her focus to healthcare. From there she ventured to The Johns Hopkins University where she founded and ran the Machine Learning, AI & Healthcare Lab. Her team developed breakthrough innovations across multiple disease areas (e.g. Parkinson's, sepsis) and has already deployed these solutions to over 4300 physicians and nurses, 90 clinical units and 5 hospitals.
Suchi realized the impact that she could have by accelerating this technology and spun it out to found a startup - Bayesian Health. She raised a $15M seed round from a16z and the American Medical Association.
Which brings us to B. Bayesian Health needs an engineering leader in NYC to scale the team and platform as they continue to develop new Machine Learning models enabling healthcare providers to provide faster and more accurate diagnoses. For more details, see the 1-pager below.
