In Lebanon, there has been an increased problem of escalation of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in our Lebanese community in the Middle East, who are already facing several socioeconomic challenges following the 2020 Beirut blast and civil unrest.

Bayer Middle East announced its support given to the German Red Cross to help provide humanitarian aid for vulnerable families through public health services in Lebanon. The program will help provide access to general public health resources in light of the COVID-19 pandemic in Lebanon. We have pledged to donate EUR 25,000 to the program funded by the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.

Initiative from German Red Cross will support the improvement of public health in Lebanon

By supporting this initiative, we at Bayer will continue to highlight our commitment to playing an integral role in helping our communities advance and improve health states, by embracing opportunities and engage in initiatives that care for broader health and safety efforts in the battle against COVID-19.

Distinguished support initiatives such as this from the German Red Cross allow us to support humanitarian key players to empower the transformation and advancement of the health and nutrition of individuals within our communities and aid in creating a more holistic approach, focused on awareness, actions and care.

?Helping provide access to essential health services, resources, and awareness

?The project tries to capture the complexity of context and existing situation with a multi-sectoral support approach to the Lebanese Red Cross. With this initiative, the organization hopes to target around 850,000 people, encompassing some of the most vulnerable Lebanese and Syrian communities. Most of the targeted groups will be aided with health-related relief, basic assistance, and resources, such as COVID-19 awareness sessions, emergency medical services, food parcels, hygiene kits, recreational kits, disinfection material for families, training of Lebanese Red Cross volunteers, and cash assistance given to the vulnerable Syrian refugee community and Lebanese families in need.

The German Red Cross involvement helps achieve a shared vision

Already back in August of last year, we had the opportunity to support the efforts of the Red Cross with an immediate aid package after a devastating explosion in the port of Beirut disrupted the city and the country.

In this context, Bayer responded to the acute coronavirus outbreak in Beirut in partnership with the Red Cross. The company sent 50,000 FFP2-masks to support the fight against COVID-19 on the ground. In addition, Bayer made monetary funds available as emergency aid under the COVID-19 response program to support an education campaign and the distribution of hygiene products to the population.

We at Bayer Middle East are all honored to play a role in supporting the German Red Cross?program and helping the devastated communities in Lebanon. We are grateful to have the opportunity to work along an organization such as the German Red Cross and leverage regional cooperation that is integral during this pandemic to provide necessary public health services in Lebanon responding to the current critical health needs, to achieve a shared vision of improving public health.

As part of our vision and sustainability goals, we believe in our vision Health for All, Hunger for None. To help materialize this vision we constantly work on promoting access to public health resources, raising standards, and supporting awareness in our core communities. We at Bayer, are convinced that an inclusive approach in association with key partners is essential for the benefit of our communities in the current climate, especially when dealing with COVID-19.
