Bauer technology in use at Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge megaproject
Greater Bay Area, China – With a total length of 24 km – 16.9 km of which above the sea and 7.1 km below – eight lanes and two artificial islands, a new bridge between the southern Chinese cities of Shenzhen and Zhongshan will set new standards after its opening in 2024. The connection is intended to significantly accelerate the integration and development of the urban agglomeration in the Greater Bay Area, and will also reduce travel time from Shenzhen to Zhongshan to around 30 minutes.
The work for the huge structure is even more challenging as the work for the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and has already begun. As was the case with the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, several machines from the BAUER Maschinen Group are also used in this prestigious major project.
CCCC-Second Harbor Engineering Co. is constructing the approximately 4 km long section S04. The main works include the eastern tower and the eastern anchorage of the main part of the Lingdingyang Bridge. This suspension bridge with its three fields – two of them with a length of 580 m and a 1,666 m long midfield – is a key project of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan link.
A special feature is that the section S04 is completely offshore, i.e., above the water. Thus, the anchorage for the Lingdingyang Bridge must be established below the water level. For this purpose, CCCC-Second Harbor Engineering Co. constructs/constructed an 8-shaped diaphragm wall with a diameter of 2 x 65 m and a width of 1.5 m using a BAUER BC 40 trench cutter and a BAUER MC 96 duty-cycle crane. The 79 panels reach in depths from 48 to 66 m and are embedded in granite.
In addition, the company Guangdong Hualiang Foundation Engineering Co. Ltd is using proven Bauer technology for their work: a BC 40 trench cutter, an MC 96 duty-cycle crane and a BG 38 rotary drilling rig have already reached their place of use. Further equipment from Bauer is already
