In life we all face personal challenges—those inner struggles or “demons” that can hold us back or weigh us down. Whether it's anxiety, anger or feelings of inadequacy, confronting and working through these battles is an ongoing process. In this newsletter, I want to share some personal insights on how to identify and address these struggles, drawing from my own experiences and interactions with others. The goal is to help you reflect on your own challenges and offer practical strategies for growth.
Finding Your Outlet
When my friend says he “battles his demons” in the gym, I completely resonate. For me, the gym serves as a sanctuary where I can work through mental blocks in solitude. I find the most peace when I'm alone, lifting weights and allowing my mind to process everything that’s going on. That physical exertion becomes my therapy, allowing me to quiet the internal noise. Everyone has their outlet and I’ve noticed that my fiancé, for instance, uses cooking and knitting as her ways of de-stressing—something unconventional but effective for her.
The key takeaway here is that everyone needs an outlet to process life’s stressors. Your way that you do that may be different from someone else’s and that’s okay; the important thing is to find a method that helps you channel your emotions productively. Whether it's working out, cooking or even listening to podcasts, discover what works for you. How do you battle your demons?
What is your go-to coping mechanism for battling your demons and how has it helped you gain perspective or relief?
The Strength in Struggle
Growing up, I had to be fiercely independent, which helped me build resilience. This carried over into my military career, where I struggled with authority but ultimately learned to manage those feelings and use that independence to lead others. The ability to understand where others are coming from, especially when they have a rebellious streak like I did, has helped me build stronger connections as a leader.
Personal growth often stems from adversity. Confronting your inner struggles head-on will build resilience and empathy. Take a moment to reflect on your past challenges—how did they shape you? The struggles you face today might just be the very experiences that mold you into a more compassionate and understanding person tomorrow.

Building Stronger Connections
Being open about personal struggles has definitely helped me build deeper connections with my colleagues. While I don’t believe that every conversation needs to turn into a counseling session, there’s something powerful in letting people know that they aren’t alone in their battles. It creates an atmosphere of trust and openness, where others feel more comfortable sharing what they’re going through as well.
There’s strength in vulnerability. When you open up about your own battles, you give others permission to do the same. Shared experiences, especially of struggle, create bonds that can lead to stronger teams and communities. Think about how you can foster a culture of openness in your own life—whether at work or with friends—and how it might bring people closer.
How has sharing your personal challenges helped you build deeper connections, whether in work or personal life?

Managing Continuous Growth
I’ve realized that battling personal demons is an ongoing process. Some of the issues I face—like dealing with authority or certain triggers from my past—are things I’ll probably always struggle with on some level. But I’ve learned to surround myself with people who understand this and I lean on them when I need support. This keeps me on track and prevents burnout from continually facing the same challenges.
The reality is that personal growth doesn’t happen overnight and some struggles will revisit you again and again. The important thing is to acknowledge this and prepare for it. Surround yourself with a strong support system and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Burnout is real but it’s preventable when you have the right people in your corner.

Normalizing the Conversation
Having a military and industrial background, mental health has historically been a taboo topic. But things are changing and people are more open about their struggles now than ever before. While I still catch myself sometimes being uncomfortable with how much others share, I recognize the importance of creating a space where these discussions can happen freely.
There’s no shame in battling demons—whether they’re mental health struggles, feelings of inadequacy or anything else. In fact, the more we talk about it, the more we can break down the stigma. If you’re in a leadership role, encourage open conversations within your team. People will be more productive, engaged and satisfied when they feel supported in their personal lives.

Your Demons, Your Journey
Battling personal demons is a journey—one that’s different for each of us. The most important step is recognizing what works for you and leaning into that. Whether it’s time alone at the gym, building a strong support system or simply being open about your struggles, these steps are all part of the journey toward personal growth and stronger relationships.
We all have our personal battles; how do you handle yours? What strategies have helped you overcome some of your most challenging moments? I’d love to hear your thoughts, so feel free to share in the comments section. Remember, no one’s journey is the same but by sharing our stories, we can support each other in this ongoing process of growth.
Take a moment to think about your own personal struggles—what are the “demons” you battle? What’s your outlet for working through these challenges and how do you maintain balance in your life? If you haven’t yet found a strategy that works, don’t be afraid to try new approaches until you do. You might just discover a method that helps you manage life’s challenges in a healthier, more productive way.

2 个月Great article, bro! Since having a new born child I've been forced to find new outlets to "battle my demons" due to lack of time and my family (with three dogs) needing me to be there day in and out. I wake up at 4am while everyone is asleep, and I run.
