On Tuesday, 15th September marked the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, from June until October in 1940, almost 3,000 RAF pilots took to the skies to fend off the threat of a Nazi invasion. The odds were stacked against Britain, with the RAF comprising of 640 aircrafts and the German Luftwaffe holding a 2,600-strong fleet.
However, in October the RAF claimed victory. September 15th is Battle of Britain day, as it was on this day that the Luftwaffe launched its largest offensive against the RAF. It's important we remember and commemorate the sacrifices made by the men and women during World War II.
Exactly 3 years to this day, something very special happened in my life. I was asked to direct and produce a very ambitious, charity project to mark the end of the repatriation in Royal Wootton Bassett (RWB), England and raise money for military charities.
The community of Royal Wootton Bassett came together over 5 months to re-record the classic Green Day track, "Wake Me Up When September Ends" from their American Idiot album, in aid of military charities. The project was called "Wootton Bassett Rocks", and its aim was to raise £1million for four charities: The Royal British Legion, Combat Stress, The Undentable Trust, and Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen & Families Association (SSAFA). The single was made available for download and on DVD in November 2011. It climbed the rock charts in several countries. I am extremely proud to have been involved with such an amazing community project to raise money for military charities, it's something that I will never forget.
LEST WE FORGET.
