The Battle Against ISIS - What's Next?

The latest terrorist attack in Paris was another in a long line of attacks to spread fear and demonstrate to the world ISIS' reach. It makes one wonder what ISIS' end game is in attacking Europe. To have this attack occur before political primaries in France , adds a bit of intrigue to the incident.
A liberal leading government in Europe would at first glance be a benefit to groups like ISIS- immigration polices would be more lenient, military and police options would be scaled back, and weekly sound bites criticizing Israel for something would appear to work in ISIS' and other terrorist groups favor.
If ISIS' goal is in fact to cause reactionary governments to spring forth, this too can play in to their hands. Currently, there are hundreds of thousands of refugees, plus millions of Muslim/Arab citizens spread through out Europe, many of these "law abiding" people may soon find themselves the target of new government policies, reprisal attacks by other citizens, and further isolation in their adopted countries.
What better way to recruit people than to increase the disenchanted population base.
I am not advocating for either a left or right wing governments in Europe, but for any government to adapt policies that don't appease terrorist entities (as France, Belgium, and Italy have done) nor at the same time are so heavy handed that democracy goes out the window.

7 年The Timing does throw up some questions as you say; with the election coming up. On the other hand it might just be that any time is a good time to attack, unless of course he had orders from someone. Cop killing in Brazil of officers sitting in patrol cars by drug gangs has led to officers not sitting in any static patrol cars. if static for any period they stand outside of vehicles with their weapons in hand. We've seen cops assassinated in the states while sitting in patrol cars and now this attack. Might be time to adopt a more alert posture.

7 年You raise some interesting points Robert. Though, do you know who doesn't want an Islamification of the US? Muslim women, who elsewhere aren't allowed to drive, be educated, not receive female circumcision, dress more modernly, have non Muslim friends. But I hear what you are saying, the US leadership and society have handcuffed themselves to such perverse levels of political correctness that reporting facts and teaching past histories of the world get sanitized to fit a convenient narrative.
