Battery Tech Is Driving A Cleaner, Greener Future.
As we look to a future marked by both post-pandemic uncertainty and the threat of climate change, the world is becoming increasingly aware of our collective responsibility towards the environment in which we live and there is a need to take steps to improve our carbon footprint.
However, only a few realise the incredible potential that batteries have in enabling a greener future. The world is moving away from fossil fuels and adopting cleaner, greener energy. The technology is already here to enable smarter and cleaner ways to power through our daily commutes.
Batteries also have many environmental benefits. ? The use of batteries can help avoid negative environmental impacts of fossil fuel-or nuclear-based power, such as air pollution and its corresponding effects on human and ecological health, as well as greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Furthermore, unlike fossil fuels, which are burned and lost forever when used for energy production, materials in batteries may be recovered and recycled, some of them eternally. Electric vehicles (EVs) with batteries are a response to a greener, more sustainable future.
Electric vehicles are without a doubt the most important end-use for batteries (EV).

Despite overall car sales falling by a fifth during the pandemic, global sales of electric cars increased by 43% year over year to more than 3 million in 2020. The lithium-ion batteries that power most EVs are a critical enabler in the journey towards future sustainability as electric vehicles (EVs) are likely to transform the course of world carbon consumption.
As the need to cut emissions grows, it is expected that the use of electric vehicles will skyrocket in the coming years. The demand for batteries to power EVs will also see a significant uptick in the coming years.
Improving battery recycling decreases EV waste, reduces emissions associated with mining for new materials, and lowers the environmental impact of EVs, making them more sustainable.
To achieve the goal of true carbon neutrality, stakeholders—OEMs, technology suppliers, battery manufacturers, and energy storage providers—are required to engage at a deeper strategic level to tackle sustainability along the entire supply chain. The battery remains the key to unlocking a truly sustainable and electrified future and it is critical that all members of the electrification ecosystem address battery innovation.

2 年If I may say, battery is a storage. Battery cannot help alone towards reducing the ecological impact. There is a need to consider the source of electricity generation. If the source of electricity is fossil fuel, then use of EV on mass scale will lead to increase in pollution. this is because generation must increase to meet demand and increase, in this case, implies more electricity generated using fossil fuels. Therefore, one must also consider moving away from electricity generation using fossil fuels. Other than the above, batteries have their own life cycles, operating conditions and disposal. this also needs to be considered. What I think is that returning power to the grid or using the EV battery to power residences when EV is idle, should also be encouraged to reduce dependence on grid. Reducing dependence on grid can help towards reducing power generation and its associated negative impacts .
