Is battery storage the answer to creating a smart, greener electricity grid?

The problem has been making the economics case for batteries stack up. The income stream has been mainly limited to reducing the cost of electricity at peak periods as batteries are behind the MPAN, the fiscal meter.
A new meter, sexily named meter P375, will allow direct trading of demand reduction in the marketplace. If a battery is used in load shifting, charging at off peak periods, and then using the energy on site or for EV charging at peak periods, the demand reduction from grid, can be traded.
P375 trading is a major milestone in achieving net zero targets, by allowing better balancing, a more economic energy system and the best use being made of the greenest energy available. It will also create a new income stream for storage that will be very attractive. P375 roll out will take place early in 2022. We are working with @Elexon to inform the market about P375 and want to find out the appetite for using this new meter.
DETA (Decentralised Trading Association) will be holding a free webinar on P375 on Tuesday 2 February at 10am.

10 个月As UK energy providers scramble to decarbonise National infrastructure, the inconvenient truth is that most energy consumers continue to live and work in built environments which were never intended to capture, store and trade clean energy. Dig deeper and the infrastructure here has often evolved in a piecemeal fashion as financing allowed - so in many cases, none of it was ever designed to operate together. As pressure mounts to ecorenovate, isn’t it time to offer grants for #rewiring Lord Rupert Redesdale to accelerate our systemic transitioning to Net Zero? #systemsthinking #decarbonisation #ICT

4 年Bit concerned about the embodied carbon that goes into manufacturing batteries. Thier short life span doesn’t help either.
