The battery cathode materials market continues to show mixed trends, with most materials experiencing downward price pressure while a few see modest gains.
Discussion
NMC Materials
NMC cathode materials, including NMC811 and NMC523, saw slight declines of 0.6% and 0.4% respectively. This aligns with the overall softening of nickel, manganese, and cobalt precursor prices. Nickel sulfate dropped 0.2%, manganese sulfate fell 0.4%, and cobalt sulfate decreased by 0.7%.
LFP Materials
LFP cathode material prices remained stable, showing no change week-on-week. However, its key precursor, ferro-phosphate, experienced a 0.6% decline.
This stability in LFP prices despite precursor cost reductions may indicate manufacturers are maintaining margins in a competitive market.
LMO and LCO Materials
LMO cathode material saw a modest increase of 0.7%, contrasting with the 0.8% decrease in both EMD-LMO grade and EMD-alkaline grade manganese oxides.
LCO cathode material declined by 0.6%, in line with the 0.6% drop in cobalt tetraoxide prices.
.
Key Price Movers
The largest price increase was seen in lithium carbonate, up 1.2%,
while the biggest decline was in #lithium hydroxide, down 0.9%.
Market Insights
The overall downward trend in cathode material prices reflects ongoing challenges in the EV and consumer electronics markets. Recent reports suggest a slowdown in power battery production, particularly affecting cobalt demand.
However, the #LFP segment remains relatively resilient, supported by its cost-effectiveness and growing adoption in energy storage systems.
The slight uptick in #LMO prices, despite decreases in manganese oxide precursors, may indicate some short-term demand fluctuations or supply chain adjustments.
.Looking ahead, the market anticipates potential growth in #LMFP (Lithium #Manganese Iron Phosphate) technology, which could impact future demand for manganese and iron in battery materials.
