BATNA for Justice

In 2022 I started advocating to create a law that would make the sale, use and manufacture of shooting targets which depict specific?ethnic groups illegal in California, and in 2024 SB1020 was created. The?bill doesn't go to the lengths I recommended but it is, as we say in the purchasing field, my BATNA, which stands for the Best Alternative To a Negotiated?Agreement. SB1020 would require that law enforcement only use race neutral shooting targets for training, on or off duty. This protects the boots on the ground law enforcement officer from having their motor skills trained to make a horrible mistake, and it protects citizens. I call that a Win/Win.

Speaking of wins. It's been a month of victories.

On April 16th the California Senate Public Safety Committee voted in favor of advancing SB1020. That was a major milestone!

On April 23rd?The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors will vote on a motion to support SB1020. That's huge due to their oversight of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Here is the motion to support:?https://lnkd.in/gFxqKkfr

I expect to receive support from the City of Los Angeles in the near future. I encourage you to ask your elected officials why it should take LA two years to support stopping the use of ethnic shooting targets. :)
