The Baslow Bolt is back for 2021
THE Baslow Bolt will be back this November, a new sporting challenge for runners emerging from a year of Covid restrictions.
The Baslow Bolt, which was revived in 2019, is a successor to the old Baslow Fell Race, held in support of Baslow St Anne's Primary School PTA.
Although the 2020 event had to be cancelled at the height of the pandemic lockdown, organisers have now confirmed that the Bolt will go ahead on November 27 - and more than 200 runners have already signed up for the challenge!
“This is a 12km Category BM - medium distance, medium altitude gain - Fell Running Association mandated mixed terrain fell race through woodland and pasture on paths and trails with minimum road running,” said race co-director Richard Conroy.
The route begins at St Anne’s Church in Baslow and climbs away from Baslow through fields towards Hassop then proceeds along the beautiful ridge path through Bank Wood and Bramley Wood.
It then drops down to the River Derwent and Calver and Curbar before climbing up to Baslow Edge, with its fabulous views across both the Dark and White Peak, through a mixture of limestone trail and gritstone before descending Bar Road into Baslow and the finish at St Anne’s Primary School.

“After so many events were cancelled throughout the past year, we are determined that the Bolt should go ahead as planned in 2021,” said Richard.
“There is of course the Covid caveat - the health, safety and wellbeing of everyone involved in the event is our priority and the final decision to go ahead will be based on discussions with the FRA and UK Athletics as well as the most up to date Government guidance.”
The event is licensed and run as an FRA?event and is subject to FRA rules and regulations.
The entry fee is £10 - including a piece of home made cake for every participant - with the total number of runners capped at approximately 300.
