Immediate Checks if SAP System is Down After Startup

  1. Standard Logs: Check the following logs: dev_disp, dev_w0, sapstart.log, stderr*.
  2. Startup and Shutdown Issues (R/3 and Application Servers):

Operating System Problems

  1. Examine operating system logs and event viewers.
  2. Check the status of disks and file systems.
  3. Verify directory structures and permissions.
  4. Confirm path names are correct.
  5. Assess security settings.

Database Problems

  • Starting and Stopping the Database: Refer to startup issue resolutions. Review the database-specific error log file. Check the database storage status. Investigate database error numbers. Monitor database alerts.

R/3 Application Operational Problems

  1. Determine if all users are affected.
  2. Identify if there is a complete lack of work or if it is just limited.
  3. Confirm the availability of application servers (using transaction SM51).
  4. Utilize standard monitoring transactions: SM50, SM04, SM12, SM13, ST22, SM37, and SP01.
  5. Review trace files in the work directory (/usr/sap/<SID>/<instance>/work).
  6. Check for SAP system alerts.

Analyze any underlying database issues.
