Basics Things to Know About Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)

Liquefied Natural Gas or Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) is natural gas that has been cooled to -259°F (–162° C), changing it from a gas into a liquid, that is 600 times its original volume.

This process is known as liquefaction, which allows it to be shipped safely and efficiently.

Natural gas is 95% methane, which is actually the cleanest fossil fuel.

There are a number of other gases that are separated from the raw natural gas before chilling, including propane, butane (n-butane) and isobutane (i-butane), as well as mixtures of these gases and are also referred to as natural gas liquids – NGL.

Natural gas is 95% methane, which is actually the cleanest fossil fuel. The combustion of natural gas primarily emits water vapour and small amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2).

COMPONENTS OF LNG

LNG is:

  1. Clear
  2. Odourless
  3. Colourless
  4. Non-toxic
  5. Non-corrosive liquid
  6. Liquid Density: 426kg/m3
  7. Gas Density (25°C): 0.656 kg/m3
  8. Specific Gravity (15°C): 0.554

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) provides a good solution, being both cleaner and more cost-efficient than conventional fuels.
