The Basics of Success
As the world is moving through unprecedented and uncertain times brought forward by COVID19, every one of us privileged has successfully adapted to the new way of working: “work from home”. Our community is trying to make use of the opportunity and get creative to learn new skills or even practice their favorite hobbies like Yoga or Meditation or Cooking or other activities.
What does success mean to us?
“Success is the state or condition of
meeting a defined range of expectations"
For many, the benefits of success are elusive. Well most of us will say: being successful means getting a promotion at work or climbing the Himalayas or making a relationship work in life. When people think of working from home, many imagine sleeping late, long lunch breaks and not effectively utilizing their time. I feel we can be successful in most of the initiatives by executing them in the times of working from home. Success shouldn’t just be attributed to working from offices instead there can be multiple wins in numerous smaller things.
There are multiple factors that one needs to follow religiously in becoming successful. The list may be endless but I am covering the fundamental areas that form the core basics to success.
1. Passion
The world’s most successful people say “the best laid plans not lie in the details but it is the ‘spark’ or ‘passion’ that initiated them”. If you don’t like what you are gonna do, you cannot succeed in that path. Passion is something that cannot be faked but it can be shared to inspire others and that helps you as an individual.
2. Devotion
Devotion refers to the commitment or profound dedication to achieve a goal. An individual should see his work as the most ‘sacred artifact’ and continue to show dedication.
3. Determination
Determination is the driving factor in achieving success. Determination can be achieved by simple factors: surrounding yourself with like-minded people and sharing your stories of successes and failures.
4. Intelligence
Intelligence is perhaps the only factor that is sometimes overrated. Our community has embraced the notion of what we call ‘emotional intelligence’ as one of the core skills to be successful. Emotional intelligence is the ability to resist temptation by developing will power, self-control and empathy which is more important than the intellectual power of the brain.
5. Time
Time is one of the most valuable commodities that every one of us should invest in. Successful people attribute their success to effective time management. You cannot achieve success overnight, but it will come in installments.
Let’s keep ourselves motivated and transform this adversity into an opportunity.
