The Basics of Achieving Energy Goals and Optimizing Health in Your Building

In the past year, we have seen a massive shift toward enhancing the quality of indoor air through public policy at the federal level down to individual organizations. Last year, the White House unveiled its Clean Air in Buildings Challenge, which not only addresses COVID-19 transmission concerns but also highlights the importance of indoor ventilation.

However, as we’ve previously established, ventilation alone is not enough, which is why organizations like the EPA or ASHRAE have published their standards for improving indoor air quality with a specific focus on increased, sustainable ventilation, air cleaning, and filtration, as well as infection transmission prevention.

The focus on sustainability and infrastructure has created a new way for businesses to promote resilience in their built environments by focusing on the intersection of the two factors. These organizations and businesses must have a detailed plan of action based on the findings of the current official guidance provided for “healthy buildings.” This not only requires an understanding of said guidelines but also choosing the right technology to help achieve proper ventilation and air changes in a more sustainable, cost-effective solution.
