Basic Structure of Segment Builder in Adobe Analytics

A segment is a subset of your Analytics data, allowing you to focus on specific groups of users or behaviors. For example, a segment could represent users from a particular country, users who purchased a specific product, or users who visited a particular page.

Segment containers:

There are three types of segment containers, which you need to understand very well.

a. Hit

b. Visit

c. Visitor

Adobe Analytics allows to combine components using the following operators:

a. AND - All conditions must be met.

b. OR - Only one condition must be met.

c. THEN - The qualification of the conditions must happen in the specified order.

Use Case:

You want to analyze users who visited the homepage and then made a purchase.

Hit Container:

The most granular level, representing a single page view or event. This container focuses on individual page views or link clicks that meet the specified conditions. It's the most granular level, allowing you to isolate specific actions or behaviors on a single page.

Example,

Would only include the homepage visit and the purchase event (if they occur on the same page).

Visit Container:

Captures all hits within a user's session. This container includes all hits within a single visit that meet the specified conditions. If a user qualifies for the segment during one hit in a visit, all hits within that visit are included.

Example,

Would include all page views within the visit that includes the homepage and the purchase.

Visitor Container:

Includes all visits and hits from a specific user. This container includes all hits from all visits of a visitor who qualifies for the segment at any point in time. This is the least granular container and is useful for analyzing long-term visitor behavior.

Example,

Would include all visits from the user who visited the homepage and made a purchase, regardless of the specific visit where the purchase occurred.

In Adobe Analytics, the Segment Builder is a tool for creating and managing segments, which are subsets of your data based on visitor attributes and actions, allowing you to analyze specific groups of users. Collection of data that represents a specific segment of your business, such as a website, mobile app.
