Addiction sneaks up on us. That's true whether it's we ourselves who struggle with drugs and alcohol, or if we are family members and loved ones of people who struggle. Addiction is cunning, baffling, powerful.
No one sets out to get addicted to drugs and alcohol, and once you're there, it can be overwhelming and hard to accept. If you're a family member, what you knew was "a problem" (someone else's problem!) is suddenly an acute crisis that demands your involvement.
As a family member myself, I've been there. In those crisis hours, we struggle with lack of experience, and something close to terror. We want to fix the problem, and fast. If you're the one struggling with a substance use disorder (what addiction is now called), fear and shame mingle, often leaving you unable to commit to any course of action. Often, there is a collision between the two.
With all this in mind, we put together a web page that contains the basic information about addiction and its treatment. It's not exhaustive, and it's not an ad for Lionrock. It is, however, information you'll need to know quickly in a crisis - and it's not bad knowledge to have in any case.

8 年Nice. I'm sure you saw 60 minutes last Sunday w/Michael Botticelli. Finally someone in position to change things gets it.
