Barriers will make or break you

Barriers will make or break you

Do you want to reach your full potential? Is there a feeling in you that makes you hunger and thirst for more? Do you have dreams that have attracted ridicule, fear, and shame? Are you completely overwhelmed by the enormity of the vision that you are having?

You see where you are going, but where you are right now and where you know you are supposed to appear to be disconnected. Nothing around you tells you that you will make it. The end is visible, but there is a big chasm between you and your final destination.

Once in a while, you see valleys and some mountains, but a part of you wants a straight path. You often wonder why the road is not flat and predictable. If this describes you, get excited because you are in the right place. I have good news for you!

The barriers or obstacles you are facing right now will make or break you depending on how you look at them. Don’t focus on the barrier; focus on what the barrier is going to do for you. The barrier is neutral, although it may appear to be menacing, intimidating, and evil. With the right perspective, you are going to use the barrier to your advantage. All you need to do is change your perspective and have the right attitude.

You might have heard about Joseph, the dreamer who shared his dreams with his brothers about being their leader in the future. As you can imagine, this did not sit well with his brothers. They did not want him to lord over them. Their jealousy, resentment, and anger prompted them to sell Joseph into slavery. Joseph was taken down to Egypt, where he was sold again and put to work pitot pay. You can imagine all the barriers that his present status as a slaved imposed on him. Yet Joseph thrived and as well as his master’s business that he was running. Then he had a #metoo moment. His master’s wife decided to seduce Joseph to commit adultery with her. Her is what Joseph told her:

No one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?” Genesis 39:9

Joseph’s refusal did not sit well with his master’s wife. She retaliated by lying to his master and he locked him in prison.

It was in prison that Joseph met the person who will, later on, mention his name to Pharaoh. What appeared to be a series of misfortunes, setbacks, and barriers turned out to be laughing pads for Joseph to become the prime minister of Egypt.

No wonder when Joseph met his brothers he told then the following:

“Then Joseph said to his brothers, “Come close to me.” When they had done so, he said, “I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt!  And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you.  For two years now there has been famine in the land, and for the next five years, there will be no plowing and reaping.  But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.” Genesis 45:4-7

Stop blaming your circumstances, background, and those who have placed barriers on your way and start seeing these barriers as opportunities for growth. Forgiveness becomes easier when you put everything in the right perspective.
