Barre Basics Explained..
As of late barre classes have been popping up all over the show as a new exercise trend, but what does it involve exactly?
Barre classes use a combination of postures inspired by ballet, yoga and Pilates. The barre is used as a prop to balance while doing exercises that focus on isometric strength training (holding your body still while you contract a specific set of muscles) combined with high reps of small range-of-motion movements.
The classes are sometimes known to incorporate light handheld weights as well as mats for targeted core work.
The major benefits of barre are improved posture, muscle definition, weight loss, increased flexibility, balance, stability and reduced stress. Plus, women at just about any fitness level can sign up for a class. It's separate to your typical HIIT workouts and most importantly they are really fun to do!
The classes are done barefoot (or in socks) and typically last an hour. You can try one of my barre classes at the following studio's in sea point.
