Banksia Behaviour Practitioner Pathway- Core level

Building Confident, Competent Behaviour Practitioners Aligned with the NDIS Framework

By Amy Hall- Director | Banksia Support Services

The Banksia Behaviour Practitioner Pathway is a robust, contemporary, evidenced based, professional development program tailored for NDIS Behaviour Support Practitioners at the Core level. This pathway equips participants with the essential knowledge, skills, and confidence to excel in their roles, fully aligned with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Capability Framework.

The Core Level Pathway includes 9 structured modules delivered over 10 weeks (20 hours in total), with multiple lessons in each module. The lessons in each module have specific focus areas and all modules have a supplementary comprehensive handbook. Each module also has a suite of practical resources, templates, links to contemporary research that may be helpful and also links to additional resources to support understanding.?

Each module also provides scaffolding to develop the learner's application of skills through case studies. Each module allows the learner to curate and develop evidence that they may use in endorsement applications and submit to their supervisors and managers as evidence of capabilities being met.?

At the conclusion of every module, the learner will feel more confident in what the role expects of them, the knowledge that is essential for them to achieve success with their clients and stakeholders and will have a broader evidence base that will enrich their awareness and value-add to the quality of their service to their teams.?

By the end of each module, participants will feel confident in their ability to:

  • Understand the human rights model of disability?
  • Develop their own Behaviour Support framework of practice aligned with NDIS legislation and best practice approaches.?
  • Apply Positive Behaviour Support principles to create meaningful change.
  • Address legislative requirements and safeguard participant rights.
  • Use practical tools to deliver impactful, high-quality support.
  • Engage in a lifelong learning and reflective practice learning model.?

The Banksia Behaviour Practitioner Pathway is perfect for early-career practitioners, allied health professionals, and educators looking to deepen their expertise and create a lasting impact in the behaviour support space. To date, 60 Behaviour Practitioners have completed this course across Australia, providing multiple testimonials and reviews, and who also contributed to feedback to improve the course based on their experience.

To ensure this program met the high-level expectations and needs of learners, the quality of this program was independently and critically evaluated in October 2024 by Dr Jeffrey Chan, the former NDIS Deputy Commissioner, Practice Quality and Clinical Advisory (Senior Practitioner) from 2018-2023.?

In his review report, he stated:?

“I wholeheartedly endorse this Program for early career Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) practitioners, developed by Ms. Amy Hall. This course is a comprehensive, well-designed resource that combines contemporary, evidence-based practices with a strong foundation in the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission standards.

The program’s detailed handbooks are thoughtfully structured, providing case studies, diagrams, and guided reflections that make learning practical and engaging. By addressing critical topics such as cultural competency, quality of life, capable environment frameworks and supported decision-making, the program goes beyond technical knowledge to emphasize a humanistic, rights-based approach.

Ms. Hall’s expertise as an educator shine through in the program’s design, which balances theory, practical application, and reflective practice to equip practitioners with the skills and mindset needed to excel in PBS.?

I highly recommend this program as a valuable tool for early career practitioners, confident in its ability to empower and inspire those entering the field.”

Lisa M. the other 34 practitioners who completed the program were early career/core practitioners. We just ran a survey asking those who completed the course six months earlier about how they were going and we had 96% of respondants state they used their handbooks daily or weekly and felt the course gave them an 'excellent' foundation for their practice. I think the best feedback was that 98% responded they understood the critical importance of good quality supervision (many of them chose to continue with myself after the course concluded, but many reflected on their own supervisers and manager relationships and they felt more prepared and conscious of the purpose of supervision and how it could leverage the quality of their practice, knowledge and skillset.
