BankingON Family Stories: Liza's Edition
Why did you choose to join BankingON?
Well, in my last university year, I decided to find a job in IT. My first job was a 1C developer (it's one Russian programming language for the accounting). I worked there for three months and realized that I don't like the economic part of the job. I decided to try something else. I saw a Junior QA announcement in VMware with a pretty high salary and thought that it would be a good start point - big company and so on. I started to pass their interviews and it stretched out for a long time, because they had a lot of steps. At the same time, my university classmate was a QA at BankingON and she was going to leave. She knew about my interest in QA, and offered to connect me with the BON QA Lead. I agreed, pass the interview, and got the job offer the next day.?
How long have you been a part of the BankingON family?
My first day was February 7, 2019. It's been four years already - quite a long time for me! I was a QA for 1 year and 3 months, and then I joined the Server Team as a developer.
What is unique about BankingON to you?
I think it's communication and clarity. You always communicate with many people and there are a lot of jokes - we laugh. Of course also the sincerity and the indifference. When you are talking with people about no matter what - you always feel that the person you are talking to really cares and speaks from their heart. So even if someone is saying, "Hey, it's not good enough, let's do it this way, or let's think how to improve it", you always know they have the best intentions. It's something that really could be better, improved, or made easier.
How would you describe BankingON’s culture?
Warm, funny, and ease.

Explain your average day or week at work.
Every day begins with?reading Natalia's messages. It can be anything - "how are you doing?", "I've tested something and it looks good", "I've found some strange thing" and so on. Then, I go through my team pull requests (new code that they have loaded), and check if someone needs approval. I see who and what currently does - what changes, where, does it affect my client, and so on. Then we have our traditional client team stand up (where we talk about how we are doing, what everyone did, discuss all issues and blockers, and brainstorm how can we solve them together). Then, it's just task making, coding, and communicating with client team and my backend team.
What is one of your favorite work memories?
Ooohhh, it's hard to say. A lot of stories from the category "What Happens in Vegas — stays in Vegas". I think my favourite work memory is:
It was a long time ago, not a lot people in the office yet, some of us had a lunch together in the office and we brought food from home. It was usually Max, Eugeny, Anatoly, Asya, Oleg and I. One day, Eugeny and I started joke arguing with punishment. Argues like: "I bet you can't do 10 push-ups" or "who will drink green tea instead of black longer (we both hate green tea). The punishments were discussed with all our lunch company, and the last decision was made by?Eugeny or I. Asya and I painted?Eugeny's nails, I took a photo in the mcDonald with a burger and posted it with the text "me and my love",?and Eugeny cooked pancakes for us all and a cake. Eugeny took progress photos of the cake to document and to prove that he really did it. It was a really funny time.
