Banking on Change: Our Commitment to Sustainability and Climate Impact
At Amalgamated Bank, we have always been committed to social and environmental justice. We understand that the climate crisis is one of the most pressing issues facing our planet today, and we are dedicated to playing our part in addressing it. Today, we want to reflect on our history of supporting sustainability and climate impact, as well as share our vision for the future.?
Our journey towards sustainability began over 100 years ago when our founders started organizing workers in the garment industry. Since then, we have continued to support workers' rights and social justice in all industries. We believe that the banking industry can be a powerful force for good, and we strive to make a positive impact on the environment and society through responsible banking practices.?
One of the ways we have demonstrated our commitment to sustainability is by becoming a net-zero bank. We know that climate change is one of the biggest challenges we face, which is why we have taken steps to reduce our carbon footprint and become a net-zero bank. We are proud to be the first US bank to have our net-zero climate targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).?
In addition to reducing our own carbon footprint, we have also made a commitment to support renewable energy and sustainable projects. By investing in these areas, we are contributing to a low carbon economy and helping to solve the climate crisis.??
We are also dedicated to helping you transition to a more sustainable future. That’s why we continue to innovate our product lines; we recently released the Climate Impact Debit Mastercard?, our new vertical contactless card made of 80% renewable resources.?
