Bangladesh: A country where justices resign to uphold justice

Justice is blind, yes, but the individuals delivering the verdicts must be abled human beings with introspective eyesights. The judiciary is the protector of the constitution, at least in theory. In Bangladesh however, the constitution is comparable to your 10th grade essay, you have the utmost care about what you want to write, but there is a magical “eraser” which gives you certain freedoms to re edit it when you want it. Therefore, expecting an impartial judiciary alongside a corrupt political system is like wishing for a benevolent dictator. Many claim it’s possible, but it will forever remain an oxymoron.?

Brother of a member of parliament under the previous Hasina government, Justice Obaidul is a shining example of how political entanglement leads to ‘injustful’ actions. Most recently, amid the continuous bombardment of bullets targeted at student protesters, a writ was petitioned in which the judiciary was asked to weigh in on the issue of state sanctioned killings, forget the ludicrous fact of needing to submit such a petition, this wig wearing stomach clenching fat incumbent destroyed the last hope for a student's legal right to protest by stating that the state has the authority to shoot, provided that there are “constitutional” measures in place to ensure that the bullet is shot properly. Through wiggling and finding unbelievable logical loopholes, these justices showed what they wanted to protect.?

The blind justice famously accepted a welcoming bouquet from BCL, the student wing of Awamilig, a golden sword from the most heinous officer Harun of the investigative branch of Bangladesh Police. Weird isn’t it? Why would a branch of the law enforcement agency be the ones to give The Supreme Justice anything? Why would a student wing of a political party, clearly affiliated with murder, rape, torture, and a student wing led by imbeciles who can not graduate from a four year education without flailing seven or eight times, be the ones to send our Lord ugly flowers? The answer may be that our lord is so blind that he does not and can not judge upon those who send him gifts. After all, aren't we all??

Reality is hard to fathom, but reality is, justices are humans. No amount of defamation lawsuits, and threats of contempt of court can change the fact that this country is plagued by asskissers and grave diggers, who are metaphorically and sometimes literally blind. They lost their eyesight licking the assholes they wish to please so much.?

“Can they change a verdict just by protesting”, is the exact translation of a quote? The former Chief Justice attured a few days before our benevolent dictator fled the country. It is also amazing how a practitioner of law does not have the historical wherewithal to utter such statements. This country was built upon destroying all unjust precedences and rulings from the oppressors. From the agartala conspiracy case being dropped in 1969 to the imprisonment of this nation’s great leader during 1971, the shackles of law and the fear of metal bars never defeated the people’s will. History tells us, it never can.?

10th August 2024 will forever remain in Bangladesh’s history as the day when the highest court was humiliated by the people. A pathetic attempt at a coup failed miserably, and the whole partisan hack was forced to resign. The apex court of the land proved too blind to witness what had been happening.?

Therefore, the people must always be vigilant of the fact that sometimes justice is blind and handicapped, it needs help crossing the street of progression.
