Once, we were knocking off from work, in the airfield. There were 6 of us cramped into a yellow military vehicle used to move around the airfield. We hit the 'Mc Gregxxx' Club, for dinner and beers. After steaks and beers, we were heading back to the barracks. The vehicle was moving pass the airfield, in order to get to our barracks. Half way, i noticed the vehicle is moving in a snake like manner. HA..ha.., everyone was joking and talking loudly, really funny....then KRONNK!!! a very loud BANG, probably Malaysia and Indonesia heard it (ha ha). Suddenly, all was, wide eyed, awaken from drunkeness. with open mouth. The driver immediately stopped the vehicle. We went down and checked what we hit. Shocking kombawa! A fuel tank fell off the aircraft wing. Those fuel tanks were fitted for extralong flights, for bombing exercises, to far islands, next morning. It is shaped like a large long olive. Confidently, one of them, radioed the mechanical team for help. "teroot..teroot...!" the ring tone lasted for minutes. No reply. Those guys had left their shift. Ughh! We were doomed! We all agreed on lifting the fuel tank and stick it back to the lock/ catch or lever holding the tank. On count of three, 5 of us are to lift the tank and one of them open the catch, ready to recieive the tank. "One ...Two...Three... up!!!" we lifted with all our might, vaporising lots of beer we consumed earlier. But the tank didin't barged, only our backs did (i mean the back is stretched, ouchhh!!!). No time to laugh, we decided to report it. The Officer on duty, was furious, and all were punished to do night work for the rest of the duration in the hangers work schedule. I was lucky, because i was due to transfer back to base in Changi. I made Corporal, in the Changi Air Base, Electrical and Instrument laboratory. Those guys were still lance-corporals. How unfair. There were even more funnier stuffs earlier, but too long to write here. Adios.
