BANG Club Launch at Kabale University Sparks Transformational Movement

By Anxious Niwamanya

In a groundbreaking event held at Kabale University's Watching Hall, the BANG Club was

officially launched on Thursday 16th November, 2023, marking the beginning of a

transformative journey for the youth. The event saw enthusiastic participation from Kabale

University students, alongside representatives from Bang Club at Kampala International

University and Makerere University

Eng. Dr. Stephen Langa, the Executive

Director of Family Life Network and

BANG, accompanied by his wife

introducing the BANG Club to Kabale

University Students.

The distinguished Guest Speaker for the

occasion was Eng. Dr. Stephen Langa,

the Executive Director of Family Life

Network and BANG, accompanied by

his wife. Dr. Langa delivered a

compelling address, shedding light on the

critical issues facing Ugandan society today and introducing the BANG Mentorship Program

under the theme, "BECOMING A NEW GENERATION."

In his insightful speech, Dr. Langa presented a comprehensive overview of the current state

of the family in Uganda, emphasizing alarming statistics on issues such as gender-based

violence, orphanhood, child marriage, and the prevalence of HIV. He underscored the role of

corruption, alcohol consumption, and mental health challenges as contributing factors to the

societal disintegration and fragmentation.

Reflecting on the State of Affairs: Addressing the gathering of young minds, Dr. Langa

prompted a reflective session, urging them to consider the consequences of the existing societal

challenges. He emphasized that as the leaders and parents of tomorrow, the youth have a crucial

role to play in shaping the nation's future.

Drawing an emotional analogy from Chinese history, he recounted the story of the Great

Wall, highlighting the importance of building human values, morals, and character as the

foundation for any lasting change. "Values, Morals & Character [VMC] come before

building anything else," Dr. Langa reiterated.

Why Values, Morals & Character Matter: Dr. Langa explored into the significance of

Values, Morals, and Character, citing their role in personal and societal development. He

stressed that these qualities are the foundation for building strong, stable, and compassionate

individuals, families, institutions, communities, and nations.

Quoting historical figures such as Thomas Jefferson and President Julius Nyerere, Dr.

Langa emphasized that education without values can lead to undesirable outcomes. He asserted

that cultivating VMC is essential for overcoming life's challenges, reaching one's potential, and

leaving a lasting legacy.

The Urgency for Ugandan Youth: Dr. Langa underscored the urgency for Ugandan youth

to build their VMC, considering Uganda's status as one of the youngest nations globally. With

Africa being the youngest continent and the 21st century hailed as Africa's century, he

encouraged the youth to rise to the occasion, prepare for global competition, and provide

leadership.

Expressing gratitude and optimism,

the BANG CLUB President at

Kabale University Mr. Niwamanya

Anxious extended heartfelt thanks to

Eng. Dr. Stephen Langa, for

introducing the club to Kabale

University. Addressing the audience,

Mr. Anxious appreciated the efforts of

his committee members, recognizing

their tireless work in making the launch

a resounding success

"Together, we will keep the club shining not only here at Kabale University but globally,"

declared President Anxious. He pledged to maintain the momentum by organizing engaging

sessions every Thursday evening, covering a variety of topics aimed at enhancing the personal

and collective growth of the students.

Madam Mafias, a student at Kabale University, expressed the significance of the BANG

Club, stating, "This is a very important club at Kabale University. We need clubs like this one

to prepare us for our future." Her sentiments echoed the enthusiasm among the student body,

with many expressing joys at the inspiring words shared by Chief Guest Dr. Eng. Langa. The

students conveyed their gratitude to President Anxious for his visionary initiative and

committed to actively participating in the club's activities. They eagerly anticipated the weekly

sessions, viewing them as valuable opportunities for personal development and community

engagement

The event concluded with the recitation of the

BANG Declaration, a commitment by the youth

to become a new generation guided by national

values. The declaration encompassed pledges to

respect one's body, honour marriage and family,

exhibit responsibility, and contribute positively

to society.

As the BANG Club takes root at Kabale

University, the way forward includes registering

students interested in joining the program and confirming student leadership. The launch of the

BANG Club at Kabale University is not merely an event but the initiation of a movement that

aims to shape a new generation of Ugandan youth, armed with values, morals, and character.

The BANG Club at Kabale University is set to become a catalyst for positive change, with a

mission to equip, empower, and mentor youth to build strong, happy families and become

transformational leaders, ultimately contributing to making Uganda a better place for all. The

launch signifies a call to action for the youth to actively engage in the process of

"BECOMING A NEW GENERATION" and, in doing so, redefine the future of the nation.
