BANANA PLANTED FOR THE PRODUCTION OF LEAVES AND FRUITS

In south India it is a custom and tradition to eat rice in banana leaf since thousands of years in the past. In hotel and restaurant generally foods are served in fresh banana leaves
In one acre land 4800 banana plants are planted with following crop geometry
Plant spacing on either side is 1.8 meter
Each pit was planted with 4 suckers . Each plant produce 35 leaves in about 6 months duration
Total number of leaves 4800 plants * 35 leaves = 1.68 lac leaves
Each leaf is sold @ Rs.2
Total income out of leaf production alone is Rs.3.36 Lac
When the plant reaches 9 months duration since planting , harvesting of leaves is stopped and atleast one banana tree in each pit is allowed to produce and develop fruit bunches
Total number of fruit bunches produced per acre is 1200
Each bunch is sold@ Rs.250 at farm gate
Total income from sale proceed of fruit bunches alone is Rs.3 Lac
So total income realised from sale proceed of both leaves and fruit bunches is 6.36 lac per acre
