BAME Maternity Voices | co-produced community research project

I'm excited to share this link for an event I have coming soon.

There are stark inequalities in the maternal health outcomes of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) women. Black women are 5 times more likely to die as a result of complications in pregnancy than white women. Asian women are 2 times more likely to die.

This peer-led research project into the experiences of BAME women and families has been co-produced by Maternity Voices Matter, University College London Hospital (UCLH), UCLH Maternity Voices Partnership (UCLH MVP), Manor Gardens Welfare Trust and NEL CSU.

We are now sharing our learning and inviting others to share theirs....

On Friday February 28th 9.30-2.30 at Islington Town Hall, London

We have listened to seldom-heard women (many of whom do not speak English), fathers, family mentors and midwives and will be sharing stories and key themes. We are also excited to have London Playback Theatre involved. They will invite audience members to share stories from their lives, which will be re-enacted by a team of actors and musicians. A facilitator will guide audience members safely through the process of sharing, watching and reflecting on their stories.

The peer-researchers are all recent maternity service users trained in Participatory Appraisal, action research. We will share our experiences of working together in this way and why we feel it is so important.

This will be a great opportunity to hear about what we’ve learned, share your own stories and thoughts and to meet with women, families and maternity service professionals.

Tickets are limited… please click this link to book your place
