THE SOLUTION

The growing population with a simultaneous increase in aging population has put up present healthcare system under strenuous demands. The environmental degradation, reduction of Green and natural zone, poor quality of food and water combined with changes in lifestyle, has substantially increased rates of obesity, diabetes, diseases of the cardiovascular and nervous systems and cancer. The increase in digital media, changes in social structure has resulted in the rise of mental health issues such as depression, alzheimer, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

The health care costs are increasing at an unsustainable pace. The cost of disease reduction has been significantly increasing over a period of time. The life expectancy has increased over the years and at the same time new technologies are becoming more and more expensive. The patent protected medicines, decrease in the availability of certain drugs, lack of transparency in actual cost are few of the factors contributing to increase in drug pricing.

This has resulted in many patients foregoing prescribed doses and medications due to the rising costs and lack of affordability and putting millions of lives at risk.

The insurance companies are trying to share this burden by providing better features in their products in a patient friendly manner, however their market growth is restricted as there has been less awareness among people to buy health insurance plans, wrong notion of health premium payment against out-of-pocket expenses for medical treatment leading to rise in health protection gap.

Patients

These are the people who receive health care delivered by Providers. They pay for insurance premiums,co-payments, and deductibles, as well as direct out-of-pocket expenses for healthcare services.

Providers

These are a group of persons or organisations (e.g. doctors, nurses, clinical staff, clinics, hospitals, health systems) deliver care to patients. They submit financial claims to Payers, receiving fees reimbursed for billable services provided to Patients.

Payers

These are insurance entities those reimburse Providers for covered healthcare services.

Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology Companies

These are organisations which develop drugs, products and services used in the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, and prevention of disease.

Medical Device Companies

The data collected will be made available in a specific manner to make valuable contribution to its stakeholder’s requirements along with a unique token incentive called BAMBOO token.

Data Acquisition

As a blockchain based solution, BAMBOO provide highly secured storage of patient’s health data and provide means to pass this data to participant ecosystems with greater efficiency and lesser cost. Smart contracts makes this data transfer on an immediate basis with complete security. An individual’s health depends on various aspects like food intake, exercise, and social life. A 360° user interaction as shown in Figure 13.0 below, wherein, the user data (e.g. heart rate, number of steps, etc) will be gathered through wearable devices by integrating with their Software Development Kit (SDK) , import data from hospitals, pharmaceutical outlets, laboratories (e.g. health parameters like blood pressure, glucose level, etc.) by integrating their software with BAMBOO’s exposed interfaces using BAMBOO Ecosystem partners. (e.g. medical imaging, clinical, pathological data), and social media (e.g. Facebook) , wireless devices, mobile applications and Electronic Health Recording (EHR) systems.

Data Management

The data acquisition module will receive data on a continual basis.

Typical characteristics of this data will be

1. The data received will be in very high volume.
2. Wide variation of input formats (structured, unstructured or semistructured).
3. Rate at which data received (data velocity) will be very high.

If we store sensitive personal health data in a traditional centralised system, then there will be a single point of failure which may lead to data theft.

Blockchain technology operates by creating records of the input data and each new record is encrypted and maintained in a block which contains a link to its previous record to create a chain like structure resulting in a block chain. This concept is termed as distributed ledger where data will be stored across multiple nodes.

BAMBOO will have the blockchain technology combined with the big data. This will provide a multitude of benefits such as

Bamboo Ecosystem

BAMBOO will create a holistic view of the user’s health. The goal of the ecosystem is to use Blockchain Technology and make the data available to all its stakeholders in a most secured manner. The data will be analysed and visually provided to each stakeholder in a specific manner according to their requirement. The incentive of BAMBOO token (BMBU) at various stages of interaction within the ecosystem will result in an engaging user who is incentivised, empowered, motivated to become part of the BAMBOO Ecosystem. Bamboo Platform

The Bamboo platform consists of a products suite encompassing user data and functionalities to manage it with a focus on empowering people on having a holistic view of their health.

Bamboo will be developed on two types of blockchain technologies. Etherium for token transactions and Hyperledger for reliable data transactions. The smart contracts will be developed for the operations of health insurance related services. The Bamboo platform will provide data transparency, data immutability, data security, data privacy and data integrity. Each transaction will be protected by advanced cryptography and gets recorded over the block chain along with the time-stamp. Thus it would provide secured data management, consent management and the facility to track the data. The entire operations will happen in a performance efficient manner to provide real-time visualization of the data.

Architecture

In view of the architecture as illustrated in the Figure 17.0 of the application has been designed.

The BAMBOO EcoSystem will bring together the stakeholders by creating an application suite. The applications will collect data from all stakeholders and communicate back with useful insights.

Considering the large user-base and diverse data, data handling is an extremely complex task. The data will be gathered from hospitals, pharmaceutical stores, laboratories, and individuals through appropriate interfaces. The application suite will then give useful data insights generated by complex Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) based algorithms.

Since the data collected is sensitive, the encryption layer, comprising of asymmetric cryptography, will make data breach impossible. This will enable retaining the interest of the public by valuing their privacy and at the same time, keeping transparency in data exchange.

The sensitivity of the data calls for a decentralised way of storage, which will store data in multiple instances while maintaining data integrity. Moreover, since the data is enormous and is collected at a very high pace with diversified formats, big data will play a vital role in its management. The EcoSystem designed would, therefore, be based on a highly scalable architecture to accommodate future requirements.

With the above considerations, the following sections discuss the technical aspects which have been considered during the design of the BAMBOO Ecosystem.

Web Application

This would be the backend application for users and organisation administrators, which will provide role based access to its users to perform a wide range of tasks. All stakeholders will have appropriate roles and permissions to perform certain operations for themselves such as data analytics, viewing of analysis results, generation of reports and the dashboard. The access to the patient data would also be permissioned based.

Mobile Application

The mobile application will have permission role based access to view data and functionalities based on the access level. The patient will be able to add the physical parameters, medical parameters, food and diet intake information, exercise information. The application will provide the results of generated insight for the patient to take necessary steps to live a healthy lifestyle. The system will also generate appropriate notifications for the user. The following are a few of the screenshots from the developed prototype.

Interfaces

The Application Programming Interfaces (API) will be provided to enable integration with third party applications, wearable devices and medical devices. The data import interfaces will be provided to import the data from ecosystem partners like pathology centers and diagnostic centers. The data export interfaces will be provided to export data from the platform to the ecosystem partners like (Drug Manufacturing companies and Govt. Organisations) who are interested in getting the results of analytic engine of BAMBOO.

Token Sale Platform and Smart Contracts, Tokenomics.

BAMBOO Ecosystem uses the token for:

1. Discounts for premium payments.
2. Usage in retail shops within the EcoSystem.
3. Trading on BAMBOO listed exchanges.
4. Discounts in fitness centers within the EcoSystem.
5. EcoSystem Partners can bulk purchase tokens and distribute them within their customer base.

Token Sale Platform and Smart Contracts On 2019 June 30.

One Billion tokens will be available in the EcoSystem as indicated in the Figure 18.0 and 50% of this will be available for public subscription in 3 phases. Phase 1 will release 250 million tokens, phase 2 will release 150 Million tokens, and phase 3 will release 100 million tokens to the market.

From these total tokens, 10% will be used for the reward program and marketing, 25% will be allocated to the team and founders, and 15% for Company Development, Expansion and R&D. The 10% allocated for the reward program and marketing will be divided as follows: 80% towards rewards and 20% towards marketing. There will be a 4 year lockup, with 25% vesting per year for the team and founders.

During phase 1, 10Million USD will be collected in 3 stages: 2 Million in a private sale, 3 Million in a pre-sale, and 5 Million at the main public sale stages.
