Baltimore's new hoagie spot; Md. invests in construction jobs and a roundup of local fall-themed beers

For any Philadelphia, New York or New Jersey transplants out there looking for a big, meaty sandwich, I've got a spot for you.

Luigi's opened earlier this month in a small kitchen within Pigtown's Main Street Market and is serving up 12-inch hoagies with all the fixings and real Italian meats like hot capicola, genoa salami, smoked provolone and more.

But beware — if you go in and order a sub, you won't get very far. The bottom of Luigi's menu offers a reminder to customers, "It's a Philly HOAGIE, not a sub!!!!!"

My photo definitely doesn't do all the thin layers of meat in there justice, but take a look below.

  • Maryland unveiled a new $15 million initiative on Friday that aims to improve construction industry recruitment, training and retention. Locally, Albertsons is the parent company of Safeway , Acme Markets and Balducci's Food Lover's Market , and Kroger is the parent company of Harris Teeter . Under the deal, the combined company will reach about 85 million households, and there's sure to be store divestitures, although it's unclear so far which stores will be affected. BBJ
  • After two years of major international shipping challenges, some data shows things are finally starting to turn around. Port congestions and container shortages are easing, container freight rates have been falling, vessel waiting times and container turnaround times are going down and ports are operating at lower capacities. The change is driven in part by difficult economic conditions in Western countries, which has led to lower demand for products. CNBC
  • The Baltimore Ravens are really bumming me out this season. It seems like every game they get off to a strong start only to blow it in the fourth quarter. Yesterday's 20-24 loss to the New York Football Giants was no different. WBAL
  • Take a few minutes to read this profile on Morgan State University 's new Thurgood Marshall student housing complex — a luxury dorm that basically doubles as a museum honoring the life and legacy of the late Supreme Court Justice. The project was curated by Dr. Larry Gibson , a well-known Baltimore attorney and historian. Baltimore Banner

BONUS: I didn't know about this until today but apparently there was a dog in Seattle famous for regularly riding a city bus all on her own to get to a nearby dog park. Sadly, Eclipse passed away on Friday, but her legend lives on. The 10-year-old first gained attention in 2015 when she began taking the bus without her owner, looking out the window so she would know when to get off in about three to four stops. NPR
