Baltimore Police LT Acquitted....That Makes Three!
Baltimore Police Lt. Brian Rice was just acquitted on all charges stemming from the death of Freddie Gray. Now THREE officers have been acquitted of those ridiculous criminal charges levied against them by the apparent biased Baltimore State Attorney Mosby. Great decision by Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake to make a settlement offer of $6.4 million to the Gray family BEFORE the criminal trials were conducted. Guess the city is having 'buyers-remorse' now, huh? So when do we impeach the Mayor and fire the State Attorney?

8 年When will the Mayor officially apologize to the police officers that she publicly humiliated before they received their day in court?
The burden of proof in civil trials is lower than in criminal trials, and a unanimous verdict is not usually required in civil cases. Therefore, conflating the civil settlement offer with the result of criminal proceedings makes no sense. Moreover, if the criminal proceedings had gone against the city, then some findings might be admissible in a later civil trial. Feel free to correct me if you believe I'm wrong. Thank you.

8 年In most jurisdictions if not all, a finding of "homicide" by a coroner means that the death was caused by another person. This is NOT the equivalent of the criminal statute of homicide, in which a person is accused by a Grand Jury or by criminal complaint of intentionally causing the death of another person, usually with intent and/or malice. Maybe people need to learn the law before jumping to conclusions and finding blame with "the system."
