On the 5th June we are delighted to share with you that Baltic Safety Products AB has had our emissions reduction targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as consistent with climate science. As a Swedish based Lifejacket manufacturer, we have made the commitment to reduce our Scope 1 and 2 Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions 23% by 2030 from a 2021 base year and to measure and reduce our Scope 3 emissions.
Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can. This is the philosophy that Baltic adopts when working on sustainability practices. Since 1977, Baltic has acted with the vision of always being at the forefront when it comes to the development of marine safety products with uncompromising quality.
“To never compromise is something that we now translate into our sustainability work and our uncompromising attitude is something we bring to this. We′re very proud to have our targets in place. When we started measuring our emissions in 2021, it was clear that we wanted to commit to SBTi. All companies have a responsibility, and as an SME we must, and will, act and do what we can to help prevent the climate crisis,” comments Linnéa Gustén, Sustainability Manager at Baltic. “Over the next seven years, will dedicate time and investment to achieve our goals of lowering our emissions in Scope 1 and 2 by 23% and lower our emissions in Scope 3. But wait, this is not our finish line, our work to do more to protect the climate and our environment will continue.” ?
To help Baltic to reach our goals, among other things, we have installed solar panels at our head office in Sweden and our office in the United Kingdom. Our company cars are electric, and we are taking energy saving actions in our facilities. Scope 1 and 2 are typically considered to be most within an organisations control, Scope 3 is where the big impact happens, but it’s where businesses have less control. For Baltic our biggest impact in Scope 3 will be the expansion of our Environmental Initiative (E.I.) Range which utilises recycled materials.
“I′m very proud with what our organisation has accomplished so far,” says Johan L?vqvist, CEO for Baltic. “The urgency to act is very important, and we want our stakeholders to put pressure on us to achieve our goals. To lower our emissions in Scope 3, we must start looking at new materials, this is where our E.I range will make a substantial difference.”
