Balmarayo - An Animated Music Video

Not often do we get an opportunity to work on music videos (we’ve maybe explored the idea for our own original content a couple of times) but as we know, animation as a medium is still often considered something made only for kids (recent example,?this ?debacle at the Oscars.) So we were pleasantly surprised and super excited when we got this opportunity to work on a music video for Balmarayo – Rasul Mir’s classic qalaam. We collaborated with Vinayak Razdan who wrote the script for the video.?

The discussions began and we spoke in detail about the complexity of the visuals and how to tackle them in art and animation.

It was a highly collaborative process with the client and we worked closely through every step of the production process.

We also gathered references and samples for locations, backgrounds, and Sufi dance steps to understand further about the culture.

We looked up on the location of?the?Buddhas of Bamiyan?and?researched star positions using the Sky Map app. We used that information to place the stars in our backgrounds.
