Colorifix: Harnessing Biology for Sustainable Color Creation

Colorifix, a biotech company, is revolutionizing the textile industry by utilizing biology to create sustainable colors. By harnessing the natural pigment-producing abilities of microorganisms, Colorifix aims to mitigate the environmental impact of textile dyeing processes. Their innovative approach not only reduces water usage and chemical pollution but also offers vibrant and customizable color options. Colorifix asserts that its pigments can be applied to various materials, including plastics, which it already works with due to the prevalence of synthetic fibers in textiles. Paper is another material under consideration, along with packaging. Hunter, the company spokesperson, emphasizes two key points: firstly, the technology can be applied to any suitable medium, and secondly, it integrates seamlessly into existing dyeing manufacturing processes. Currently, the company is in the initial stage of scaling up its operations. Colorifix secured its first funding in 2018 and has since raised €30 million to support its endeavors.

Samsara Eco and Lululemon Launch Groundbreaking Enzymatically Recycled Polyester Product

Samsara Eco and Lululemon have collaborated to introduce the first-ever product crafted from enzymatically recycled polyester - the Packable Anorak jacket. This innovative material is sourced from a variety of inputs, including mixed plastic waste, end-of-life Lululemon apparel, and converted carbon emissions. Addressing both the plastics and fashion waste crises, this collaboration signifies a crucial step towards sustainability. Currently, over 90% of fashion waste faces disposal in incinerators or landfills. Samsara Eco's partnership with Lululemon showcases the potential to give clothing infinite life, preventing textiles from ending up in landfills and contributing to a circular fashion economy.
