Hey Remote Creatives!

Welcome back to another edition of The Remote Creatives newsletter!

This month, we're diving into a topic that's close to the heart of many digital nomads and remote workers: managing work and travel as a creative entrepreneur. Sat overlooking fairy chimneys in Goreme right now, after an amazing but intense week juggling travel from the UK to Istanbul to Izmir and now Cappadocia, it felt about time to share this edition

The Türkiye Digital Nomad Visa has recently been released, and I along with amazing remote entrepreneurs, Iwo Szapar and Nienke Nina Keizer were invited by ?Mine (Kocadag) Dedekoca and the Go Türkiye team to hang out in Istanbul for a few days last week.

It was amazing to hang out with these guys 'IRL' for the first time in a while and to explore more of Istanbul 'beyond the guidebook'. More details on this soon, but if you're curious about different places to work from in Istanbul, I published a blog post about this last week.

Whether you're a seasoned traveller or just dipping your toes into the digital nomad lifestyle, balancing work commitments with the desire to explore new places can be challenging. And I wanted to share some of the ways that help me to make the most of my work-and-travel adventures.

Creative Tips for Balancing Work and Travel

1. Create a mobile office setup: Invest in a lightweight laptop stand, a portable keyboard, and noise-canceling headphones. This will help create a comfortable workspace anywhere, from busy cafes to quiet parks.

2. Embrace time zone differences: Check the time zones that you need to be working towards and schedule your work hours accordingly. I find that working in the morning and then making time for exploration during the early afternoon is best, but you may prefer to do things differntly.

3. Plan content in advance: Use tools like Later or Planoly to schedule your social media content before your trip. This way, you can maintain a consistent online presence without sacrificing your travel experiences (although I'll be honest, I'm not always consistent with this).

4. Use your surroundings for inspiration: Let your new environment fuel your creativity. Use local colours, textures, and scenes as inspiration for your work, whether you're a graphic designer, writer, or photographer.

Logistical Tips for the Traveling Creative

1. Research coworking spaces or different cafes to work from: Before you travel, look up places in your destination. Many offer day passes and can provide a productive environment when you need to focus.

2. Prioritise reliable internet: Use apps like SpeedTest to check internet speeds at your accommodation before booking. Consider investing in a portable WiFi device for backup.

3. Master the art of packing light: Invest in versatile clothing and tech accessories that serve multiple purposes. This will make moving between locations easier and less stressful.

4. Set clear boundaries: Communicate your work hours clearly with clients and travel companions. This helps manage expectations and ensures you can fully enjoy your downtime.
