Balancing Work and Island Living

Balancing Work and Island Living

Close your eyes for a moment and imagine a place where the sea is a vibrant blue, the sun is always shining, and palm trees are waving in a warm breeze...

Hey there from sunny Cura?ao!

This is where I work as a Talent Acquisition Specialist for BearingPoint Caribbean. Did you already enjoy picturing the blue sea and the palm trees? Keep reading and let me tell you about my Caribbean adventure.

How it all started...

My journey with BearingPoint Caribbean started in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in August 2022. Just two months later, I said goodbye to city life and hello to the laid-back vibes of Cura?ao. Now, after 1.5 year, I'm fully settled into both my job and the island lifestyle.

What BearingPoint Caribbean does

What makes me proud about working for BearingPoint Caribbean is the significant social impact we have on small islands and developing states as a software developing company. Being part of a company dedicated to helping communities reach their full potential is incredibly fulfilling. I'm honored to contribute to our mission, knowing that my efforts play a part in creating positive change. It's not just a job; it's a chance to make a difference and empowers communities to thrive.

What I do

My role at BearingPoint Caribbean is that I'm part of the "People & Culture" team. The People and Culture team is our very own modern HR department where it’s all about finding, developing and celebrating top talent. Even though we're spread out across Cura?ao, the Netherlands, and Colombia, we work closely together. As a Talent Acquisition Specialist, my job is to find the right people for our offices around the world, from the Netherlands to Cura?ao, Bonaire, and even Colombia.

"We focus on creating a positive work environment."

Every day is different as I juggle multiple tasks, like reviewing job applications and interviewing candidates. I'm also Talent Management Analysis certified to assess talent. To make sure we find the perfect fit for each role. What I enjoy most about my work is that I get to connect with a lot of different people. Seeing a candidate accept our offer and become part of our team, is always the biggest highlight for me.

What's special about working at BearingPoint Caribbean is our focus on creating a positive work environment. I get to work on projects promoting employee well-being, drawing on my background as a lifestyle coach. These projects help make our workplace a happier and healthier one.

A perfect work-life balance on a tropical island

Climbing the Table Mountain together with the BearingPoint family.

Outside of work, life on Cura?ao is a mix of relaxation and adventure. I enjoy going to the gym, practicing yoga, and spending time with my 2-year-old son. And of course, there's plenty of fun in exploring the island, relaxing on the beach and hiking up mountains.

"My colleagues have become like family"

But it's not just about work and play. My colleagues have become like family, and we love celebrating the island's culture together, especially during events like Carnaval. Just recently, I attended a lively pre carnaval party called "T'aki Tin" with live music and lots of dancing. The day after I participated in a charity event called "Ride for the Roses" to support cancer patients.
