Balancing Thought and Action

Balancing Thought and Action

**Learn more about Untapped Leaders**

Hi there,

Over the next few months, the work of Untapped Leaders will shift from thought to action. There is a dynamic interplay between thought and action in leadership, generally. We tend to orient towards action because that is what is visible -- that is what shows proof of progress.

Getting caught up with action, however, can mean perpetuating status quo practices that may not be effective.?It can also mean moving quickly without regard for impact. We might be expending unnecessary energy and resources as a result of not pausing to consider all factors, especially factors that are commonly overlooked.

I'm eager to shift Untapped Leaders into more?action?in the coming weeks, but also I highlight and celebrate the extensive thought required to get here.

Thank you to all who have?shared your leadership insights, offered feedback, and followed along. You'll notice this newsletter shift and transform a bit, but it will always balance the?thought?embedded into?Write. Wonder. Witness.?prompts with the actions you can take as part of this community.

If you've just joined in, welcome! Thank you for being here.

Write.

An opportunity to dig into what we might be missing in our leadership.

What have been instances when you've prioritized thought over action in your work? What has promoted that thoughtful leadership? What has inhibited it? In what mode are you most comfortable -- thought or action?

Wonder.

An opportunity to reimagine deeply embedded leadership structures and practices.

What practices can you implement to center more thought into your daily actions, if needed? At what moments can you institute deliberate pauses to move forward more effectively?

Witness.

An opportunity to learn from overlooked perspectives.

"Leadership really comes down to relationship building and getting to understand the folks around you and what is everybody’s individual vision.

How does that bubble up into a potential collective vision?

What are the pain points and pressure points and motivations that are relevant for each person in this kind of ecosystem that we’re operating within and really understanding that?

It’s much more of a co-created. It should be a co-created process.?Leadership, to me, ultimately is really facilitation.?Leadership is about co-creation and creating a container for the community.?Can you create containers for that vision to be developed to grow and blossom?"

–Sara Farooqi of?The Conscious Collectivist?

Effective facilitation, and therefore effective leadership, requires us to dynamically manage the interchange of thought and action in our work with others. How are you facilitating the people and the work that surrounds you?
