Executive Roundtable: On-Prem Modernization Requires as Much Attention -- and Investment -- as Cloud Migration Initiatives

There is a growing appreciation among enterprise technology leaders of the increasingly dynamic relationship between various cloud resources and on-prem computing capacity. As a result, hybrid, multi-cloud infrastructures are no longer seen as an interim step toward an all-cloud future. Instead, most large and established organizations view heterogeneous computing environments as a permanent architecture that will be critical for optimizing the long-term technological and financial performance of enterprise infrastructures.

This was a central conclusion of a recent CIO.com executive roundtable session that featured participation from over a dozen senior IT and security executives across a range of vertical industries that was co-hosted by Susan Shumway and Don Spangler from IBM.

Over the course of the conversation, executives that had launched comprehensive business transformation initiatives five or more years ago observed an interesting phenomenon. Read on by clicking here.

Gartner Survey Identifies Top Strategic Imperatives for HR Technology in 2023

The three most important HR technologies this year are skills management, learning experience platforms and internal talent marketplaces, according to a survey by Gartner, Inc. The survey of 138 HR leaders revealed the top strategic imperatives for HR technology in 2023.

“With a tumultuous global economy, HR technology leaders face a balancing act in 2023,” said Sam Grinter, director in the Gartner HR practice. “Leaders must anticipate greater levels of accountability and demand for measurable outcomes to justify new technology investments.”

“Organizations continue to face a troubling skills gap,” said Josie Xing, director in the Gartner HR practice. “This problem has compounded as the pandemic accelerated the adoption of digital technologies in all industries as well as today’s fierce competition for talent.” Read on by clicking here.

Executive Roundtable: Attack Surface Management Opens New Opportunities to Proactively and Cost-Effectively Assess Threats and Address Vulnerabilities

As organizations assess their 2023 strategies for enhancing the protection of their most important assets while rationalizing investment in security tools and technologies, risk management leaders will be well advised to integrate a proactive “outside-in” approach to threat assessment into their “Zero-Trust” initiatives. It is in this context that concepts like attack surface management (ASM) are receiving increasing attention in efforts to dynamically allocate the right resources to protect the most critical elements of their enterprises.

These were among the conclusions of a virtual executive roundtable held by CSO online and co-hosted by Alex Reid and John Velisaris from IBM. The event featured over 20 executives representing large enterprises from a wide array of industry sectors. The group generally agreed that tightening budgets and rising threats are putting more pressure on security professionals to do more with less – even as the threat landscape becomes more perilous. HDR Offers Efficient and Cost-Effective Path to Enhancing Production and Distribution of Live, Episodic and Theatrical Content

Significant new developments in the conversion of standard dynamic range (SDR) content libraries to high dynamic range (HDR) along with the distribution of live broadcasts -- especially sports -- are opening new frontiers of opportunity for the entertainment technology industry. So say Marty Gordon, vice president of brand partnerships at Philips, and Nick Mitchell, media solutions specialist with InterDigital in a podcast interview for journalists held during the HPA 2023 Tech Retreat this week in Palm Springs Calif.

“HDR is already a mainstream element in the development of episodic and cinematic productions, which is why analysts at Allied Market Research are projecting that the high dynamic range market will reach $126.74 billion (US) by 2030,” says Gordon. “High dynamic range -- and many of the immersive formats we're seeing emerge in the industry -- amplify the creative palette. This ultimately results in a more immersive and impactful experience.”

“For consumers, HDR absolutely provides a point of differentiation. When it comes to HDR, seeing really is believing. Once consumers experience HDR, it is very difficult for them to go back to standard dynamic range. Today, more and more consumers are hungry for premium in-home entertainment experiences, and HDR is increasingly seen by consumers as integral to meeting their growing expectations,” says Mitchell.
