Balancing Convenience with Fulfillment

How can we escape for even the tiniest sliver of time? Conflicting schedules, obligation and noise are the rule in many of our lives. The notion of stopping to enjoy, to savor, even to feel, sounds like it applies to someone else. We simply have too much to do.

Most of us cannot schedule time for ourselves. Instead, we find moments here and there when we can, as if by accident. In that fleeting timeframe, we may take in fully the layered complexity of a fine wine, a warm breeze, the haunting voice of a singer or texture of a cello. These are the times we treasure.

We need to learn most appreciations from masters of their craft so we may know the pleasure they bring. Anyone who has ever attended a wine and food paring hosted by someone truly gifted, knows that their minds were opened, and horizons expanded. The same can be said for many disciplines requiring deep understanding and art.

In my world people tell me everyday that music is important to them. They “have it on all of the time.” Our business is driven by making media access and control as easy as possible. Like having a freezer filled with preprepared dinners, this convenience is perfect for our busy lifestyles. Music is hidden away for us to grab whenever. Will there ever be time for something more? Only if you understand music’s potential and do the prep in advance. Having the ability for magic to occur when you press “play” takes a willingness to let moments worth savoring become a priority. Then they will.

We see amazement when people realize how much they feel when they hear music played back well. It is only then that the notion of finding any sliver of time to stop and wholly feel becomes real, personal and relevant to ones’ own life.
