Balancing Commitments: My Journey Through the AI Ethics and Societal Challenges Course

Allocating time for new learning amidst a busy schedule is far from easy. It demands sacrifices and a disciplined approach. Pursuing the Artificial Intelligence: Ethics & Societal Challenges course meant setting aside precious moments with my children and sacrificing a few hours of much-needed sleep. Despite these challenges, my determination to complete this four-week journey of intellectual growth kept me motivated. The course not only broadened my understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) but also deepened my awareness of its ethical and societal implications.

This course served as a gateway to critically exploring the ethical dilemmas and societal challenges posed by the increasing use of AI technologies. Engaging with its content heightened my sensitivity to the consequences of AI deployment and encouraged me to reflect on its broader implications for society. It emphasized the importance of thinking critically about AI's impact, particularly in areas such as fairness, democracy, and accountability.

The program was structured into four distinct modules, each offering unique insights. I also learned to navigate the ideas of forward-looking and backward-looking responsibility within the context of AI—an area fraught with practical and philosophical challenges.
