Balancing between Organizational Goals with Long-term Relationships

Balancing between Organizational Goals with Long-term Relationships

In the business world, leaders look at organisational goals and balance them with the need for long term relationships with other organisations. Success is not always measured in achieving organization or personal goals, as organisations and individuals cannot work alone.

This was the subject we discussed in depth with my three decades friend Engineer Delip, who works in the field of electrical engineering. The discussion addressed the issue of dealing with conflicts, which are a daily occurrence in the engineering and construction industry, and the need to understand the psychology behind conflicts, and how to control and manage feelings before they turn against you.

Often, there needs to be a greater emphasis on the long term relationship with others, organisations or individuals, as true success hinges significantly on how successful a leader is in addressing conflicts and managing these relationships.

Conflicts will either severe relationships, or create better understanding and appreciation, thus making them stronger. It all depends on the mindset you use to resolve these conflicts.

In a previous post I put a statement saying “You can achieve more through your contracts then you can through your contracts”. This is very true not only in the construction industry, but in all walks of live. It is therefore very imperative to invest in building strong relationships with stakeholders based on trust, respect and professionalism.
