When is ‘enough’ enough??
Recently, my client showed up to a coaching session. She was wrecked. ?She had spent the good part of the last two years delivering, showing up and serving her clients ?really well. ?She had gone from zero dollars ?to edging just over the $300K mark in revenue in two years.
I was so proud of and thrilled for her - and then she dropped the clanger on me: “Em, when is ‘enough’ enough?”
?After working in my own business for seven years, I fully understood what she meant.
We all need to make money. We want to have an impact and serve our clients well. But how do we choose between the relentless hustle and our own wellbeing??
Is it one or the other, or can we find a healthy balance??
Today, I’m sharing the questions I asked my client in order to uncover the root of her exhaustion and the strategies we discussed to help her re-prioritise her own sense of wellbeing.?
Redefining Success
To get the conversation started, I asked my client three crucial questions.
These questions led us to redefine what success truly looked like for her - not what it looked like for someone else, or on social media or to friends and family - but specifically to her.?
Implementing Self-Care
Given that she has Achiever as one of her strengths, it was really difficult for my client to slow down. To counter this, we came up with some structured self-care routines, starting with something as simple as daily naps.
Creating these breaks in her schedule was essential for deregulating her nervous system and boosting productivity.
We also explored other self-care activities like facials, massages and limiting work hours to integrate more balance and joy into her routine.
Looking Forward
We all need something to look forward to, and the hope for exciting plans can break the monotony of relentless work. So, I asked my client to identify something she had to look forward to, which turned out to be a family trip overseas.
Additionally, we planned smaller, accessible activities that could bring joy without the need for a major break.
Personally, I find solace in simple pleasures like enjoying a hot cup of tea in a serene environment. It's essential to have these moments of pause to recharge.
Remember, success isn't solely about achieving those financial goals; it's also about maintaining mental, emotional and physical health to keep you on the right track.?
So, what does success look like in your own life? And when is ‘enough’ enough for you??
