While these scenarios may seem far-fetched, the increasing reliance on AI does raise valid concerns.

OpenAI has been transformative for productivity across many fields. However, there’s a genuine risk that our emotional and cognitive growth could lag behind as AI becomes more powerful. Balancing AI capabilities with emotional intelligence will be essential as we move forward.

Learning and Development in the AI Era

Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and learning are the foundation of organizational growth. In my experience teaching organizational behavior, I’ve never seen such a drastic shift in how we work as humans than with the introduction of AI. Generative AI will not change who we are fundamentally, but it will certainly change how we operate, especially in the workplace.

Merging Core Skills with Emotional Intelligence

As individuals, we have the choice to either embrace AI or resist it. Sometimes, taking risks—integrating technology into our personal and professional lives—offers unexpected benefits. AI prompting has a range of applications, from “soft” uses like asking questions in OpenAI to developing educational models, to “hard” applications, which form the basis of modern AI governance. And as users of this technology, we all share responsibility for AI governance.

The Importance of Emotional Intelligence in AI Development

These reflections are simply thoughts, not directives. However, it’s crucial to harness our deeper intelligence to shape who we are and consider the emotions that could impact organizational success in the future. While the rise of AI may cost us some cognitive independence, we have the opportunity to strategically integrate emotional intelligence with AI prompting.
