I Assist Leaders in Optimizing Talent & Team Performance | Executive Advisor | Behavior Analyst & Founder of Seizing 61:1
Welcome to the first edition of "The Path to Peak Performance," a newsletter dedicated to exploring the depths of organizational excellence, authentic leadership, and team optimization. This space is where professional insights meet real-life experiences. Here, you'll find a blend of strategic advice and personal anecdotes, including stories about my kids, my husband, and the challenges I faced deep in the ABA field.
So let's dive in! In today’s fast-paced world, many leaders feel pressured to conform to what they think others want them to be. This often leads to a disconnection between actions and core values, causing entire teams to shape-shift and lose their genuine direction. True leadership, however, comes from embracing your authentic self and fostering an environment where your team can do the same.
The Power of Intrinsic Motivation
While monetary incentives are essential, they only go so far in motivating your team. To truly inspire and engage, you need to tap into what intrinsically motivates each team member. Whether it’s recognition, creative freedom, or the chance to make a real impact, understanding these deeper motivations can transform your team’s performance and satisfaction.
The Organizational MRI: A Deeper Look
Think of your organization as a living entity. While an X-ray might give you a basic view of the structure, an MRI provides a comprehensive understanding of the inner workings. In business terms, this means using tools like the Culture Index to assess your team’s core strengths, weaknesses, and intrinsic motivations. This deeper insight allows for a more accurate diagnosis of organizational challenges and the development of effective solutions.
Differential Diagnosis in Business
(Yup, we are using medical terms, but stay with me! Fun fact: before my daughter's journey pushed me into ABA, I dreamed of becoming an anesthesiologist!)
In medicine, a differential diagnosis involves considering various potential causes to identify the correct condition. Similarly, in business, understanding the complex interplay of team dynamics, individual motivations, and organizational challenges allows for a more accurate diagnosis and more effective solutions.
Leading Effectively
So how can you lead effectively? Be it as a business owner, a CEO, a BCBA, a BCaBA (yes, I see y'all), or even an RBT. You should do the following:
Embrace Authentic Leadership:
Lead by example and stay true to your core values. Encourage your team to do the same, creating an environment of trust and integrity.
Understand Intrinsic Motivation:
Discover what drives each team member and tailor your approach to meet their needs. This creates a more engaged and committed workforce.

And of course, if you want to dive deeper and do some self discovery, you can always take a Culture Index Survey here:https://surveys.cultureindex.com/s/LpXxPrA30Z/104689 and I'll tell you just how your core behaviors are stacking up at work!
On a Personal Note
If you have kids, are you ready for this new school year?
As I gear up for the new school year with my girls, people often ask, "How do you do it?" If you’re new here, let me share a bit about my life. Despite my work ethic and drive, all my girls receive their education at home with me. I'm connected to their school board so they can all keep their IEPs, but otherwise, it's all me... and my husband, of course. Balancing professional challenges with homeschooling and supporting my family has taught me invaluable lessons about resilience, dedication, and the power of intrinsic motivation.
