Balance to Me Means Acceptance!

Balance to Me Means Acceptance!

Balance, we hear it all the time. What I have learned about balance is acceptance. To accept yourself for where you are while you are focused and moving towards your larger goals.

Since we begin the pandemic, I have become more effective with my time management and time blocking. Almost so effective that I can adequately work 60-80 hours a week with no break. However, I realize that just because I can effectively time block my entire life does not mean I should be working nonstop. I'm an extremely high performer, usually working on 3-5 projects at one time. However, mentally this is draining, and as I have matured, I realize it's okay to say "No" while creating healthy boundaries.

The last couple of weeks, I felt drained and not creative, so I decided the best cure was to climb a muddy mountain in PR. Anyone who knows me can contest that I am a pack-mule when it comes to hiking, giving even a Billy Goat a run for their money. By the time I'm finished climbing a mountain, I'm sweaty and exhausted, the best feeling in the world. I enjoy the journey while hiking, yet I also love the physical challenge. The harder the climb the better.

I view life the very same way. The harder the challenge, the better reward, and views at the end.

However, similar to fitness, we need rest/recovery days.

In the past few months, I've been making a conscious effort to say "No", while establishing healthy boundaries, and taking "Me" days to recharge.

What is your mountain and when was the last time you climbed it? How do you reset, and are you doing it enough?

I hope this has encouraged someone to step out and invest more into yourself. When you give back to yourself, then you can give more to others.

What is “your” mountain? A very introspective and startling question as you begin to have an honest conversation with yourself if your so focused on go go go that you don’t stop to drain that same level of effort and focus (note I think focus is the key to the recharge) on a fully self satisfying task. Good on you Jaclyn (Jax) Scott . My mountain: running downtown Charleston
