Balance from the Inside . . .
Are you someone who can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs?
I worked for The Walt Disney Company for twelve years and there was ALWAYS a fire to put out. In those situations you had a choice - you could join the drama and amplify that energy, or you could take a step back and look at the situation dispassionately and act from that place.
What I noticed was, that when I wasn't "attaching a story about me" to the situation, then it was much easier to take that step back.
When a work drama occurs and we think things like; "I messed up! Now they will know I'm a fraud." we send our brains into panic mode and our pre-frontal cortex shuts down. We literally can't think and we absolutely aren't equipped to deal with whatever emergency is in front of us. However, if we are able to keep ourselves out of the story and just deal with the facts then we have full working use of our brains.
So when shit happens at work, how do we keep ourselves out of the story?
Well, as I'm a coach, I always to go mindset. If I believe that I know what I'm doing, that I have done my best and I'm equipped to handle emergencies then that is far more likely to actually be the case.
And . . .it's easier to believe in ourselves when we are well resourced i.e. when we have the things we need in order to be a balanced, well functioning human. These are things like sufficient sleep, water, nutrients, exercise, time to ourself, love and support. When we give ourselves what we need then we make ourselves stronger, better and more able to deal with what life and work throws at us. ?
When my clients first come to me, they are usually living a life that feels unfulfilled and out of balance. ?
