The Balance Between Performance and Recovery
Living a high-performance life while ensuring adequate recovery is about striking a balance between striving and rejuvenating.
I loved working with Jamie Wehbeh and his insight that 'Robustness' is all about the quality of your plan and 'Resilience' is all about the quality of your recovery.
Here's a concise approach:
- Stretch Goals: Push your limits but ensure they're achievable.
- SMART Goals: Specific, Motivational, Adaptable, Relevant, Trackable (Contact 2b Limitless to understand more).
- Prioritise: Focus on high-impact tasks.
- Establish Rituals: Strengths-Based Behaviours, Practiced 'on purpose' and positioned to enhance engagement, performance and FUN.
- Continuous Learning: Always seek growth and improvement. (Never a better time in history for this.
- Feedback Loop: Regularly review and adjust your approach.
- Physical Rest: Prioritize sleep and consider activities like yoga.
- Mental Rest: Take breaks, especially during intensive tasks, and consider meditation.
- Sensory Rest: Detach from screens; engage in activities that soothe your senses.
- Creative Rest: Pursue hobbies or activities that reignite your creativity.
- Emotional Rest: Engage in introspection, journaling, or therapy.
- Social Rest: Balance time between socializing and solitude; ensure quality interactions.

5. Maintain Health

- Sleep: If sleep was not absolutely necessary evolution would have wiped it out... Get 7 plus hours a night and protect your cycle.

Remember, high performance is a marathon, not a sprint.
Regular rest and reflection are essential to sustain it.

1 年Such an important post Mick Todd, the foundations of high performance are physical wellbeing. Too many neglect the recovery piece and eventually will struggle with energy. Great reminder for people to slow down in order to speed up.

1 年Mick Todd I love all the 6 pillars of the approach. One build from my end is the following: If you don't have the rituals in place or you are not great about managing your time or even resting, NO NEED to panic and try to change everything in one-go. I recently read the book "Atomic Habits" and the author provides very simple wisdom- improve things at atomic level, inch by inch. Or as you say" gradually and then suddenly" . This approach gives me comfort that even if I am not there yet, I will reach there soon.
