On Baja Blasts

"I have not been having a Baja Blast this week, and it has impacted my day-to-day mental health."

Last week I wrote a post about the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad mental health week I was having.

Why was it so bad?

I was spiraling HARD.

It went like this:

I couldn't focus > which made me frustrated > which made me self-critical > which made me feel bad about myself > which made me not want to try (because I already suck at the thing, right?) > which made me mad > and sad > and unable to focus on anything else.

Isn't that thought process wild?

It's so easy to spiral when you're in a bad headspace, and my headspace was truly the pits last week.

The silver linings:

  • the post was super cathartic, like getting the thoughts out there in the universe purged my negative thought processes.
  • folks in my network have been transparent about their own struggles because no one has a unique experience in this universe, do they? It's a wonder we feel so alone sometimes.
  • I had therapy later that day and I'm fixed (jk, but I did have a safe space to cry and vent - definitely recommend it)

On giving up too soon

So I spent some time this weekend think about how I need to focus more time on doing things that give me an emotional and creative outlet to talk about things I love.

Turns out, my two favorite outlets are 1) talking about books and 2) talking about feelings.

(Hence the Everything's Coming Up Marketing pod -- and I hope to keep it going with a season two this year!!)

Initially, when I started this little newsletter, I wanted to use it as a space to invite other people to share their mental health perspectives in this crazy corporate world.

The good, the bad, and the ugly.

But more than that, I wanted to start sharing perspectives of the people in the B2B world that I respect and admire who are on their own mental health journeys.

And after writing 4 newsletters, I kinda...gave up. I missed one issue, then another, then another. Then I felt ashamed that I couldn't keep to a schedule. Then I abandoned this passion project altogether.

Not super proud of that fact.

?? Which brings me to my final point before I let you go! ??

On you

Joe Golberg from the TV show "You" waving

Hey, you. ??

In case no one has told you today, you look nice.

I have a question for you. (well, a few actually)

  1. What topics about mental health do you want to see more of on your LinkedIn feed?
  2. Are there any people/experts/perspectives you want to hear from?
  3. Do YOU want to contribute in some way (big or small) to a lil ol' newsletter about mental health and wellness?

And finally...

Did you miss me?

I think it's important to remember that any and all mental health experiences look different - for example, anxiety in one person may manifest very differently in another!
