BaiRBIE me a Fringe!
Firstly, does Tech YOU Out! newsletters on a Tuesday work for you or do you prefer this email to drop on a Saturday morning? I don't mind, it's about when is best for you, not what is best for me. Plus, LinkedIn finally launched a schedule option for newsletters, so I can be more flexible in when I post them. Let me know in the comments.
Big THANKS
Secondly, a huge thanks to everyone who supported my #OpenToWork bat signal. I've already had some great chats and a few excellent opportunities that I'm exploring and a couple of smaller projects that will keep me busy in the short term. I don't know what I'd be feeling right now without the amazing community of beautiful contacts and friends that I've amassed over the years. I'm truly grateful for your support and advice.??
Also, a huge thanks to my soon to be former colleagues who have given me some excellent LinkedIn recommendations without telling them what I wanted in it or without having to ask (too much). I'm also taking this holiday to reflect on what my future career trajectory looks like, I'm pretty sure I know what it is, but I'm not rushing into the next adventure the same way I did the last. Oh and I'm catching up on a lot of reading. Plus, plans are afoot for some podcasting. 'Listen to this space?'
TYO! Book Club
Which is part of the reason why I posted a video about my current favourite book. High Impact Content Marketing by?Purna Virji??? (I really wish LinkedIn would let you properly embed a LinkedIn video post into a LinkedIn Newsletter, how hard can it be?)
After some amazing feedback, I'm going to turn this into a little Book Club. I'm just turning what I enjoy into something that I hope will help others. So, watch this space! Lucy Woolfenden & Carlos Doughty I'm open to sponsorship opportunities and collabs. ??
AI Barbie, let's go party!
I saw a post by Carl Reader (who is sure to be in my book club at some point soon) about BaiRBIE.me, fun tool that let's you create a version of yourself as Barbie or Ken. It didn't work very well for him, but since I can't grow a beard, even in my 40's, it worked much better for me! I was genuinely impressed. I even have the right amount of fingers.
AI acts are taking to the stage at the Edinburgh Fringe
A natural evolution perhaps, but I'm not a fan, though of course being Edinburgh Fringe, they are not just getting AI to write jokes.
Courtney Pauroso's invention, Vanessa 5000, which pokes fun at the emerging technology, to improv led by AI, there are some imaginative uses of the potential end of days machina. I'm not sure even the most advanced AI would ever be able to fully understand the Human ability to make fun of things that could one day wipe us out or take our jobs.
Boyd Branch, an actor in one of the AI shows believes there's plenty to laugh about when it comes to AI.

"We're laughing at tech in a way that's awkwardly inserted into human conditions... and so I think the humour of the robot actually emerges on stage when we watch our relationship to it kind of crumble."

OpenAI launches six new features
ChatGPT is great for helping you to get a framework together for something you're working on and give you a jump start but what if you don't know what you don't know? Probably the biggest issue for retaining more casual users is what to do with it and how to do it properly. There's a whole cottage industry for prompts and now you can get them directly in the app.
iOS and Android Apps are also now available and carry over your history etc. Useful in a bind perhaps but I still prefer using it on a laptop.
You can now upload multiple files, and it will keep you logged in rather then logging you out if you walk away to speak to a human or some other none AI thing you need to do.
Plus, it will now default to ChatGPT 4 and there are now keyboard short cuts to make the whole experience a little bit faster and easier to use.
You can read more about these new features here.
Now you can block OpenAI’s web crawler
A hugely contentious issue with AI is where it is getting its learning data from and it not being clear how to stop it from scraping your site. You can now officially stop OpenAI at least from scraping your site for new learning data, but others may still do. This is still a grey area ethically and legally, but this is how many very successful start-ups operate until they are told to do otherwise.
There's a book about that which I'll be sharing as part of my book club.
Speaking of, I'm going back to the pool and my latest book. So, have a great week and I'll be sharing more TYO! Book Club information soon.
As always, please drop your thoughts in the comments and like/subscribe if you haven't already.
