Bahamian Dream!!
By: Sebastian Curry
We always hear about the American dream, but what about the Bahamian Dream? While the focus has historically been on Sun, Sand, and Sea, there's a shift towards the entrepreneurial dream. Over the years, the Bahamas has evolved significantly. There was a time when only major businesses could accept credit card payments due to high prerequisites for obtaining a merchant account. However, the Bahamas has progressed, much like a fine wine, taking time to achieve perfection.
Let's reflect on how far the Bahamas has grown over the past 50 years as we approach the 51st Independence Day. Technology has evolved from pay phones with quarters to VoIP solutions provided by #CableBahamas and other institutions. I recall when one had to physically take a lunch hour to make a bank deposit. Thanks to #Scotiabank, which was one of the first banking institutions to implement ATM deposits and provide an ATM drive-thru for those with limited time to conduct business. The Bahamas has thrived through adversity, especially during the pandemic that affected the entire world, pushing innovation and creativity.
Through this adversity, E-Commerce and digitization have emerged. Mobile wallet systems such as #Suncash, #MobileAssist, and #CashnGo have created contactless solutions for businesses throughout the Bahamas, empowering them to accept payments. Additionally, Sebastian Alliance Group (SAG) has played a crucial role in enabling small businesses to accept online payments seamlessly, with funds going directly to their bank accounts. The expansion of loans facilitated by the #IDB to increase digitization throughout the Caribbean, including the Bahamas, has significantly raised awareness of technological advancements, allowing businesses not only to survive but to thrive!
Businesses have been innovative, especially during the pandemic, by implementing digitization such as online debt collection processes by Intelisys, #Scotiabank, #RBC, and Gateway Ascendancy. Over the years, Bahamians have expanded into other industries, modernizing insurance agencies like #Colina, allowing customers to check claims, view history, and make payments online. Bahamian entrepreneurs are now living the dream by making money while they sleep. We have evolved and look forward to what the future holds for this Bahama Land.
Additionally, Liongate Bahamas Limited became one of the first licensed firms through the DARE Act to offer Digital Assets services. This enables Bahamians to empower themselves by investing in digital assets, tapping into new financial opportunities.
As we celebrate our 51st Independence Day, let us embrace the Bahamian Dream — a dream that thrives on innovation, resilience, and empowerment. Our journey of progress and transformation is a testament to our spirit and determination. The future is bright, and the opportunities are limitless. As we continue to evolve, let us remember the words of an old Bahamian saying: "Forward, Upward, Onward, Together."
Happy Independence Day, Bahamas!
