Yes I am about to break one of the biggest taboos there is. I am going to admit to something which will alienate many of the readers of this blog. I hate Christmas.
There I have said it, or written it at least. I am not sure why but there is a feeling of dread that I get about this time of year and it is horrible because I know it will get worse before it gets better.
I don't actually hate Christmas. I enjoy the joy bit, and the few days holiday, because not only am I on holiday, my customers are as well so there is true downtime. I think I actually hate the lead up to Christmas.
The irony of seeing a man in shorts wandering around a Christmas department (as seen at Marks and Spencer's this weekend). Children's excitement when they see Christmas trees 2 months before the date itself, knowing that the ads will start on TV. So is it just the commercialism I despise. Yes and no.
I hate the Christmas excuse why companies cannot sign contracts from the last week in October because "its Christmas"- no it's frickin' not. The way things stop until "we will deal with it after Christmas" as it is a turn point in the year (which new year is, but only as a date). I can understand company year end, but the actual holiday period is only two days.
I don't like crowds much so shopping is a no no. I have helped with the Round Table Christmas sleigh for the past 20 years so I know about the giving that goes on and the charitable feel, however the hearing Noddy Holder before bonfire night does make me shudder.
Usually with these blogs and manage to turn this round to a moral or something that my company sells so that there is a point to it. Sorry on this one, this is just a rant for ranting sake. I assume I am not alone, and therefore I am looking to set up https://christmasanonymous.co.uk if anyone wants to join the cause and be amongst others who will be happy not to wish you "Happy holidays"
